Deportivo Alaves has concluded the summer transfer window without any last-minute signings. The Vitoria-based club retains a settled squad of 23 players after four summer additions and successfully fended off interest in captain Antonio Blanco.
The sporting direction, led by Sergio Fernández, expressed satisfaction with the current group. Their main goal on deadline day was to add a player for the left flank, but no deal materialized. Manager Quique Sánchez Flores now has a squad that Fernández himself described as "very stable and harmonious." The roster was finalized at 24 players with the permanent registration of Selu Diallo, who had impressed the coach during preseason.
The future of Antonio Blanco was the biggest question. The 26-year-old midfielder attracted interest from Real Betis and several Serie A clubs. Alaves, however, maintained a firm stance throughout. The captain's release clause is set at 20 million euros, a prohibitive figure considering his contract expires in June 2027. Also, Real Madrid holds 50% of his economic rights, which would have significantly reduced the net profit for the Basque club.
The scenario for a departure was complex. The club did not receive any formal offers it deemed suitable and prioritized sporting stability. Finding a replacement of his caliber at this late stage would have been nearly impossible. The intention now is to open talks over a contract renewal once the window has closed. Blanco is a key figure in the engine room, as shown by his numbers on our stats page.
Alaves completed four signings during the summer period. Finnish goalkeeper Ville Koski, midfielder Mikel Rodríguez, winger Miguel Rodríguez, and Argentine defender Nicolás Valentini joined the project. These arrivals addressed specific needs identified by the coaching and technical staff.
In contrast, the club managed a significant outgoing operation. Nine players left Mendizorroza, most notably the sale of Víctor Parada to Spartak Moscow for around 6 million euros. Moussa Diarra, Asier Villelibre, and Jesús Owono were also transferred, while Jon Guridi, Raúl Fernández, Adrián Pica, Unai Ropero, and Nikola Maras saw their contracts end.
The commitment to youth and academy products is clear. Selu Diallo, 22, turned down offers from abroad to stay and fight for a place in central midfield. Hugo Novoa also remains, though he faces fierce competition on the right wing from Ángel Pérez, Nahuel Tenaglia, Jonny Otto, and new arrival Miguel Rodríguez. The club was open to a departure for Novoa if a good offer arrived, but he ultimately stays.
Adrián Rodríguez remains as the third-choice goalkeeper, providing depth. Mariano Díaz is another preseason revelation, scoring two goals and turning his situation around.
Alaves now looks ahead to the continuation of the campaign with a closed squad and no late surprises. The team's next official fixture is a La Liga match the weekend of September 13th calendar.
