Sivera saves the decisive penalty as Alaves win the Óscar De Marcos Trophy

Alaves reclaimed the Villa de Laguardia Óscar De Marcos Trophy by beating Eibar 4-3 on penalties this Monday at Mendizorroza. The match ended 1-1 in regulation time, but the babazorros prevailed in the shootout thanks to an inspired Sivera.

How the match was decided

The game started with an early warning from Toni Martínez, who headed dangerously though with a foul on Arbilla. Eibar, however, opened the scoring in the 32nd minute after a blunder by Jesús Owono allowed Bautista to finish unmarked. Adrián, on loan from Alaves last season to Zaragoza, couldn’t prevent the goal after a defensive error.

Quique Sánchez Flores reacted with changes at halftime, bringing on Sivera, Protesoni and Aleñá. Alaves responded with Ángel very active down the left wing and a Yusi eager to equalize. The equalizer came in the 78th minute, when Mariano Díaz tied the game after a cross from Boyé.

The decisive shootout: Sivera shines and Mariano scores

The shootout began with Martón scoring for Alaves. Boyé equalized, but Sivera saved Ares’ attempt. Blanco made it 2-1, Garrido tied it at 2, and Mariano put them ahead 3-2. Álvaro Rodríguez tied it again at 3, Yusi scored the 4-3, and Sivera closed the shootout by saving Carrasco’s penalty.

Joseba Bermejo, Eibar’s goalkeeper, was crucial with two stops against Boyé and Álvaro García, but Eric, Lumbreras and Javi Martínez missed clear chances for the Guipuzcoans.

What this win means for Alaves

The Óscar De Marcos Trophy arrives at a key moment for Alaves, who are fighting to secure a mid-table spot. The win at Mendizorroza boosts the team’s confidence and shows Quique Sánchez Flores’ strength in managing rotations and changes.

Mariano Díaz remains a key player up front, while Sivera cements his place as the starter. The competition in goal, with Owono and Adrián, adds healthy pressure to the squad.

The Vitoria-Gasteiz side now faces preseason with high morale after a tight match that proved the character of this Alaves team.
