The player, of Almerian origin with a Guinean passport, suffered physical issues that became more complex during his loan spell at Alverca last season, where he made only five appearances. In February 2026 he underwent surgery for a condition at the intersection of his hip and thigh. After an intensive summer of work with a physiotherapist and individual training, his return to competition will be gradual.
Molo Casas, the reserve team coach, has confirmed the player is close to being available. "Todo apunta a que en breve podrá contar para Molo Casas como uno más," the coach explained. Mendes now has three months to approach his true level and aim for greater involvement.
The academy product, who joined the club at age 13 and came through the Ibaia setup, made his first-team debut in the Copa del Rey in 2021 and renewed his contract for four years in 2023. His current deal expires in June 2026, making this period key for his future in Vitoria.
