Police prevented an organized fight between radical fan groups of Racing Santander and Deportivo Alavés on the morning of their league match. A special security operation intercepted approximately 130 ultras before they could clash at Parque de La Teja in Santander.
The fixture had been declared high-risk by the State Commission against Violence, Racism and Xenophobia in Sport. The National Police stated that "around 09:10 hours, officers detected a group of approximately 60 members of Iraultza in the Avenida de Los Castros area". This Racing group was organized, cohesive, and displayed aggressive behavior, with some members wearing dark sports clothing, balaclavas, mouth guards, and carrying sticks and gloves.
Almost simultaneously, another group of around 70 people, presumed to be Alavés ultras, was located near the planned confrontation site. They wore similar clothing and were preparing to move. Ten members of the visiting group lacked tickets for the stadium. The operation, activated from early morning, managed to intercept both sides and prevent the violent clash.
The match eventually took place at Campos de Sport de El Sardinero, where Alavés lost 2-1. Ville Koski put the visitors ahead in the 18th minute, but a double from Yassir Zabiri turned the game around for Racing. This result is part of an inconsistent run for the Mendizorroza side, who sit sixth in La Liga with 10 points from six games. Their record shows three wins, one draw, and two defeats, with a recent streak that includes two consecutive losses.
The team now faces a tough trip to San Mamés to face Athletic Club, who are ninth in the table. The coaching staff is also managing several significant absences, with Aitor Mañas, Facundo Garcés, and Mikel Rodriguez currently on the injury list, which is updated on injuries. Striker Luis Boyé, with four goals in five appearances, remains the team's offensive reference this season.
